Local Exhaust Ventilation is a type of engineering control equipment used to control exposure of employees to hazardous chemicals. The system works by capturing emission from the source and transported it to safe emission point or the workroom environment. The hazardous substance can be in the form of dust, smoke, mist, aerosol, vapor and gas.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standard Exposure to Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000, the testing and examination of the system must be done (1) at least every 12 months and 2) when new local exhaust ventilation system is installed as the baseline data for future testing and examination as well as to ensure the system works as per design.
